I think it's the idea of not being able to turn back the clock that is so terribly sad... he will never again be that fresh-faced innocent spirit. The scars are deep indeed. :(

That's why I love FOTR the most, everyone is happy no worries.
Not knowing of what will come and after, so much pain so much horrible moments.

Well, I would say I miss the last frame: his beautiful smile while he's sailing away. That would cher it up a lot, wouldn't that? :-)

you're right, it makes me sad too...so sad I have to have it on my desktop... :cry:

It always made me sad, too. I love FOTR because everyone is still so fresh and happy and excited. But by the end... not so much. And I felt the very worst for the Hobbits, but especially for Frodo.

That is very sad... but also very pretty. Thank you for sharing.

To this day even after all the times I have watched it I still cry :cry: everytime I watch the end of ROTK when they sail away and its not just because of Frodo leaving but the elves leaving as well and how sad Sam is. It tears me apart everytime I watch it. (Buys stock in kleenex hehe)

Indeed! That is all that makes ROTK, and especially the Grey Havens, bearable for me.

(Of course, you could just look at my avatar... that might give you the idea that I have to see That Smile on a regular basis just to cope, lol! :roll: )
