Well we went There and Back Again and I believe I can say for all of us that a spectacular time was had by all. I'm not a shutter bug but perhaps Ashlyn or TolmanJr or Bonnie may post a photo or two? Anyway, word is they are gonna do it again: AL3P, The Road Goes Ever On, in 2 or 3 years. I strongly encourage anyone who can to try to attend. It is truly an experience of special magnificence!

He wore a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, and a silver scarf. He had a long white beard and bushy eyebrows that stuck out beyond the brim of his hat.

I'm already thinking of further wardrobe enhancements for the next time.
Hmm, I wunder how much some chainmaile would weigh?

TolmanJr/Ranger1...still not King :(

An average chainmaille shirt will weigh about 40 lbs. There are some places that sell plastic chainmaille for costumes. I think WETA was actually doing that for a while, don't know if they still do.

Lindorie, It's more than just a shirt.
(Contacted WETA sometime ago, unable to do plastic maile at that time)

It goes under this:

Aragorn's outfit at the Black Gate. It will be aluminum rings and leather.

I just used a shirt as a weight reference. When I think of a maille shirt, I think of it as mid thigh length, at least. Guys who wear maille armor in the SCA will say that a 'shirt' or halberk will weigh about 40 lbs.

My apologies for another long absence! I did indeed hope to make it to ALEP II, but had to cancel for a very special reason. . . .the homecoming of a dear friend who had served with the Marines for 14 months in Afghanistan.

I've retired since most of my former posts here, so hopefully you will allow me to rejoin the forum in anticipation of the Hobbit films and any other upcoming celebrations!

Hope that all who I've met at ORC or GOTF are doing well. . .healthy, happy, and enjoying second breakfast whenever possible! And I'm sure there are new friends to be met here as well ;)

RFO, that's a good reason for missing ALEP II! Here's a very late "Welcome home and thank you for your service" to your friend.

Also, it may not be ALEP, but we do have Texas Moot coming up in September.... (hint, hint). :D

Welcome!

There will be an ALEP 3 in 2014, so plan ahead!

Also, in the works for this December, for the release of the first Hobbit movie, a few ALEPers will be gathering back at Shaker Village for that weekend to attend a movie showing in Lexington, KY.

All are welcome. If any one wants details let me know and I'll provide Tim's contact info.

Thanks daughter_of_kings and TolmanJr

I was not aware of the Texas moot and will have to look into that. But I am on Tim's mailing list, so I did receive word of plans for the Hobbit premiere. Not sure yet about either. . . but exciting to consider!!
