This site grew out of the Lord of the Rings fan community of Decipher's Official LOTR Fan Club. By community vote, the forum was named The Fellowship of Middle-earth. It was first hosted and run by Primula and TrebleMaker, who also run the LOTRfanclub's archiving site, the Scrapbook, and Daughter of Kings has taken up current Admin duties. The additional domain names of lotrfellowship.com, lotrfellowship.net and lotrfellowship.org were purchased for our use as a donation from the members here.
Our goal was originally to provide an annex for the "Official boards" where the threaded view that we enjoyed at the older-style forums could be restored in some measure (you will find it as a viewing option in the upper right hand corner), and where we could hopefully find a faster, more stable server. Over time the boards at our original location were neglected by their hosting company and this site took on the role of the main "home" for the fan community.
When news of the Hobbit film was first heard, additional domains were brought in directing to these forums.

This is a G-rated and family-friendly community, intended to be safe for all members, of any age or moral preference as well as to as to any family members or co-workers reading over their shoulders. Please keep this in mind when posting. Images are not permitted in signatures in order to keep the boards quick-loading for our members with slower connections, but you are welcome to have the avatar of your choice (100x100 pxl max).
