SE, I learned to set the table from my mother too! She suckered me into doing it all the time by telling me what a nice job I did at it and she couldn't trust anyone else to do it as well. Now I won't let my husband do it because he can't keep straight where the fork, knife and spoon go. Drives me NUTS! :twisted:

Lindorie, that makes sense to me now too. I just can't break the habit. My mom said she did it that way back in the day because the water pressure wasn't strong enough to get between the spoons if they "nested" together. Now of course my dishwasher is much more powerful so working end down is probably cleaner. My consolation is I haven't killed anyone yet. :grin:
