I'm really excited for this-especially when I saw that it's going to be faithful to the book. I've studied the book twice so far (for two different classes) and I'd highly recommend it, although there is alot of violence and situations that could be disturbing for young kids and such. What I really like is that there is meaning behind the straight story/plot, which I hope translates into the movie too.

Saw the film yeaterday. Our local paper had a short article last weekend about it: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09326/1014869-60.stm , this was followed by another article on the 25th when the movie actually opened here. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09329/1016041-120.stm
Not having read the book and after reading some other reviews and online discussions, I was a little reluctant to see it but still wanted to, to see Viggo's and his 'son's' performances. Good movie overall but, what's the right word , disturbing....grim.....??? The ending did offer a brighter/more hopeful moment though.

Remembering that parts of the movie were filmed here in western PA, I found it interesting during the film to try and recopgnize where some of the location might have been. I did recognize several: the old Turnpike tunnels, the chared ruins of the Conneaut Lake hotel, the smoke/vapor plumes in the background coming from the power plants at Shippingport PA. An article at imdb.com lists other locations, one being Harmony PA, this is less than a mile from where I work! I'd love to know the exact location used.

I went and saw the movie on Nov 30th and was NOT disappointed at all.

Very close to the book, Viggo was perfect, Duvall was incredible, Charlize was awesome, and the wee boy was precious.

I do suggest however that only those that like that type of film or have read the book go see it.

and bring a tissue or two sez i.

I'm thinking that you omitted a word here. I am interested in seeing Viggo's work, but don't know if I want to see it in the theater. I have a very hard time dealing with some sorts of films unless I can get up and walk around a bit or just listen for a while. His work is amazing, but sometimes his choice of subject matter is a problem for me. Everything is so negative or gloomy. I've never understood why so much 'good' literature is so negative.

Thanks for the correction Homey!

It is a very hard movie to watch and the book even made me cry.

BUT

The under current of the Human Spirit prevailing against all odds is, well so Human and enduring.

even in Hobbits...Frodo would not have got far without Sam.

The movie, The Road, is in limited release and hard to find even in a large city.

Don't go alone, take a loved one or friend along.

In 'The Mail on Sunday' magazine called 'Live' there is the most gorgeous pic of our Viggo on the cover with an article about The Road on the inside. Don't know if it's possible for anyone to search this up to the site (I can't :???: ) so you all get to see it.
The inscription reads: "Viggo Mortenson - from Lord of the Rings to King of the Road" Quite clever don't you think? :D
